The 2nd level Master’s degree in ‘One Health: environmental and health sustainability of food production’ aims to provide knowledge linked to consolidated scientific evidence on the relationship between food, health and environmental sustainability. It will be organised by the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of UNIMORE and will be aimed at professional categories generally involved in food production, control, distribution and administration.

The Master’s degree has been designed from a ‘One Health’ perspective, which considers human, animal and environmental health as ‘one health’: ultimately, the ideal approach for achieving both ‘Global Health’, which involves several sectors communicating and working together to achieve the best results in terms of public health, and ‘Planetary Health’, which studies not only the effects of environmental changes on human health, but also the political, economic and social systems that regulate these effects.

The master’s degree will last one year and will award 60 university credits (CFU). It will be delivered at a distance, in mixed mode (synchronous and asynchronous). The contents will be video-recorded and made available online to all. There are 3 courses (health, agro-zootechnical, economic-legal) that will take place after the completion of a common part.

Professionals will be trained who will be able to work in the teams of Public Health Departments, which are known to require multidisciplinary approaches in order to systematically and effectively address the complex interaction between the environment and health, so as to work alongside doctors for public health management and risk assessment. The Master is also aimed at operators involved in the agro-livestock production chains, in order to integrate knowledge and skills on food quality and its possible impact on individual and collective health, and on the environment.
In order to achieve these objectives, the Master’s course will specifically deal with guidelines on disease prevention, guidelines on proper nutrition, issues related to food production and distribution, and the relationship between food production and effects on the environment (crops and intensive livestock farming).
